TAKE I10 N TO THE JUNCTION OF I10 AND I17 (121 MILES, 2 HOURS) Tucson, AZ - A medium sized American city heavily influenced by the hispanic community due to its close proximity to the US/Mexico border. Tucson has grown up in the valley/plain formed by the Tucson, Santa Catalina, Rincon, Tortolita, and Santa Rita mountain ranges. The original settlement (or presidio) of Tucson was established between the base of Sentinel Hill and the Santa Cruz River. Tucson was an important outpost along the mission trail in Southern Arizona and south of Tucson are the significant colonial missions of San Xavier (an operating Roman Catholic parish) and Tumacacori (now an excellent state park). Tucson is also the home of the University of Arizona the first public university in Arizona.
