Sitting at the Kattenburgerplein outdoor cafe, I watched two big crows swarming a nest high up in a nearby tree. The resident occupants, a much smaller species, were hopping around the nest chirping like mad (i guess that is what caught my attention). One crow intimidated them away from the nest enough for the second thug to hop in and grab one of the chicks! Then they both flew off in that 'yeah, we bad' kind of way, leaving a very heavy darkness over the family nest, and my own perception of things.


note: in my memory, it was actually the egg that the crows flew off with, but in writing this, it seemed somehow totally implausible, i mean, how could a crow 'carry' an egg while flying? This is a clear case of the memory of a memory taking on it's own life, and I'm not really sure exactly how to resolve it internally, I guess from now on, I'll 'remember' it as a chick-napping instead of an egg-napping.
