"What the hell was that?" I asked my friends, but they didn't know. This random temple, thin and tall, rising out of the trees right next to the highway.

A tour guide friend of mine told me it's a Shinto mausoleum, and that each floor has bodies interred in it; he also said it's not open to the public. Eventually I found it, in the back of a big cemetery along with the Royal Mausoleum, and sure enough, it was both closed to the public and hard to get close to. That's the best photo I could get of it.
