Description:
Accessible BLM lands consisting of depleted borax and mineral mines in the Coyote Mountains. Dramatic dry gorges, minimal plants and wildlife, rocky cliffs. Great place to burn wood, fire weaponry (Shell Canyon), motor and mountain bike, hiking. Fossils can still be found. Area has no water sources. Very rugged terrain with 50-100 foot canyon walls. No motoring or biking through the canyon. Sometimes area is closed to vehicle access from the road, but you can park and hike in no problem. Well known to locals. Nearest supplies are in the little town of Ocotillo. Limited or sporadic cell phone service.
