My roomie and I lived in the poolhouse behind, yes, the pool. In exchange for light housekeeping we paid about $60/month in rent each, and we got to use the car to go grocery shopping. Biked to school every day - we were poor and hungry but in fabulous shape then. That life was so sweet. Learning Anthropology and Literature with a view of the vast New Mexico desert. And to think that a snarky young Bill Gates was living less than a mile away at the time, tinkering with his new operating system software company called "Microsoft". I like to think that he heard me on the air at the local university jazz station while crunching code.
