Description:
I was at home by myself. Erik called from work to tell me, and I turned on the TV. I couldn't believe it. I poured myself a drink. I watched the news for about an hour and then turned off the television. Every person I knew in France called me to express their sympathy, which I remember felt strange to me at the time. Unlike many Americans, I didn't feel as if I had been personally attacked. I just felt dumbfounded by the horror.
