Description:
Once again I'm biased, since I graduated from here in 2004, but Lawrence University is a fantastic undergraduate liberal arts school. I have never regretted choosing to attend here. The university is divided between the college and the music conservatory. While all the students mingle, the "connies" are known for being singularly focused on their music studies. Students also tend to have a quirky side, which we jokingly referred to as "the Lawrence Difference" (which is printed on the school's literature). An example of this is the annual student-run Midwest Trivia Contest, broadcast every year on Wisconsin Public Radio for a weekend in January. Off-campus teams are welcome to join and teams come from all over the Midwest and beyond.
Lawrence hosts a wide range of artistic and cultural events throughout the year, many of which are open to the public. These include full-scale operas and musicals, dramas, musical concerts and student recitals. Lawrence also hosts an annual Jazz Festival with a range of world-renowned jazz artists, and a convocation series which brings in a variety of experts to share their expertise, including people such as Fareed Zakaria, Lech Walsea, and Frank McCourt. Wander the beautiful collegiate campus, especially in the fall when the Main Hall Green is awash in brilliant reds and golds.
