Peig Sayers was a living legend. Some people decry her as a bitter old woman who complained about life but without her the oral tradition of Irish storytelling would be dead. Her autobiography captured life as an Islander just before the 20th century wiped out these traditions. Peig is a good read. (Please note, I'm not exactly sure where her house is located - so do some extra research or ask some locals before setting off to see it!)
