Description:
New Orleans police Friday arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting of another 19-year-old on Tuesday in Mid-City.
Timothy Jackson was booked with first-degree murder in the death of Brandon Barnes.
Barnes of New Orleans and another 19-year-old man were shot Tuesday about 6:30 p.m. near Palmyra and South Rendon Streets.
Police found one victim at Palmyra and South Rendon, and the other around the corner in the 200 block of South Jefferson Davis Parkway.
Barnes died about a half hour later at University Hospital.
Detective Anthony Pardo determined that Jackson was responsible for the killing, said police spokeswoman Jonette Williams. After an arrest warrant was obtained, Jackson was arrested at Interstate 10 Service Road and North Hullen Street by New Orleans police and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
Court records showed Jackson pleaded guilty on March 7 to possession of cocaine and was placed on probation for three years.
A day before he was killed, records showed, Barnes was in Criminal District Court in connection with a charge of carrying a concealed weapon, first offense. His trial was to have taken place on April 28.
