Fourth District officers responded around 3:30 a.m. to a report of a shooting at L.B. Landry Avenue and De Armas Street, near the base of the Crescent City Connection bridge, police spokeswoman Sabrina Richardson said in a news release. They found two men, Michael Reed, 21, and Dalvin Rainey, 24, inside a car, both suffering from several bullet wounds.

The 21-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 24-year-old man died within hours at a local hospital, Richardson said. Their identities were not immediately released because their families had not yet been notified.

According to detectives, as the victims' vehicle entered the intersection, one or more shooters, possibly in a red vehicle, approached them and fired several times, then fled the scene, Richardson said.
