Mushroom Hunting with a Camera a while ago

Description:
We went back for another walk on Monday (Labor Day). This was partly to help Vigo get over his fear of yellow jackets in the Fells and partly to try to get pictures of the mushrooms in situ. We're taking care of Brian and Aaron's cats this week while they're up in Maine, so it only makes sense to get in a little hike while we're up there.

One thing we did was to write the names of the three mushrooms we had positively identified on popsicle sticks so we could look for them again and mark them along the trail. That was fun.

We hadn't brought a basket or bag, so we didn't collect any mushrooms. I don't want to try to identify new mushrooms without having them on hand to examine, but here are the pictures we took of some of the fungus of the Fells. Most of the pictures we took didn't turn out. They were all taken with the micro setting on and with a flash.

Some kind of Amanita
We thought maybe this was the famous death cap, and maybe it is, but we couldn't really get a positive identification of it. At any rate, it is definitely some kind of amanita and it is wise not to eat any amanita, just to be on the safe side.

Painted Suillus

These aren't mushrooms, but they are pretty neat.
