We have climbed here twice this year - at 8000 ft. with only 2/3rds oxygen, it's at the limit of what we can manage in a day. The second time up was to gather more information. For the paintings.
Here is nothing but shattered rock: no glacier has smoothed over the jagged edges. It's a boulder factory - nothing is liftable. Expertly-clad europeans stride past slabs of dirty summer ice, in a hurry to strip and plunge in the near-zero water. An old man in old shoes swings a plastic gallon of it, to his village below.
