Apop Records ( Columbia, MO )

Apop Records is an independently owned and operated record store whose purpose is to make available those recordings that are often over-looked by both the chain stores, and other independent shops. Apop is dedicated to providing the best music, both obscure and popular, to the widest audience possible. While you will find staple indie, punk, rock, etc releases at Apop, you'll also see titles available nowhere else. We do not limit what we carry to a specific genre, nor are we concerned with the latest fad, trend, or the fickle taste of the fashion music "underground". In addition to stocking cds and vinyl, one can also find a variety of literature, publications, tracts, and videos. We at Apop do not believe in the censoring of unpopular information and strive to make available products that express a multitude of ideas, beliefs and platforms. We cater neither to the left nor the right; for that matter Apop has no political ties, whatsoever. We are always searching for both new and old music, books, information to distribute, if you think we are missing something let us know. Nothing will be considered taboo.

you can also check myspace
Tags: ..., apop, metal, cd, industrial, punk, web, music, dvd, experimental, electronic, noise, records, vinyl, idm, columbia, folk, etc, recordstore, psych

Map this on Platial

EasyStreet Records

a pretty good record store. it has a little too much of a hipster vibe but if you can get over that it is nice. they also serve breakfast for some reason (??). they have a whole section of used cds on the second level, so dont be deceived into buying new stuff if you dont have to! i think they also have a lot of live performances there, but ive never been to one.

they recently had a "richard marx greatest hits" as a staff pick. i dont know about that.
Tags: pancakes, music, seattle, west seattle, cds, vinyl, used cds

Map this on Platial

Wally's Groove World ( Antwerpen, BE )

        WGW Store
Lange Nieuwstraat 126
2000 Antwerpen

in the early nineties as the first Deep House label in Belgium. It gained a lot of respect in the business and after numerous successful releases, a few offspring labels appeared in order to promote other music styles such as Break Beat and Tech House. By the end of the nineties Wally’s Groove World counted four sublabels (5 labels in total), an internet website and a second hand vinyl store. Wha? Roots, the more commercially minded sublabel hit the charts with Arsenal in 2003. On the other hand, less and less was released on the original Wally’s Groove World label due to the decreasing demand for house in that period. Early 2004, a new era started for the group as the second hand basement store closed its doors to reopen as a street-level underground dance store selling mostly new releases and dj equipment and a new WGW release is planned for 2005 with Optimus and Mayaku remixes of the Arbeit Adelt hit Death Disco.

In 2005 the focus is also set on the internet store. WGW is working on giving the site a new interface, a more sophisticated technical architecture and on collaborations with distributors to increase the web catalogue. These distributor collaborations should multiply the internet database by four to reach around 100.000 records by the end of this summer, and maybe even twice as much when reaching 2006. The goal is to obtain a fully professional extremely user-friendly website offering a huge database of rare, second hand and new releases. Thank you for being patient and remaining loyal to WGW.
Tags: rock, music, house, electronic, vinyl, freestyle, wally, recordstore, vinyl store, break beat, cd deep house, tech house, broken beats, edits, nudisco

Map this on Platial
Dandelion Records was extremely alternative from its conception (Lol Coxhill, Kevin Coyne, Lee Perry, etc.) and by 1978 had become Danish distributor of several punk, new-wave and alternative record companies; as well as trying to introduce independent reggae labels onto the Danish market.

Lakeshore Alternative Music ( rochester, NY )

In 1985, the Lakeshore Record Exchange was being sold by a man who wanted to retire from the store who had established the business over the course of many years. Another entrepreneur (our man Andrew) bought the Lakeshore Record Exchange and has been managing it ever since. In 1995, when the Internet was still new and eCommerce had yet to become a buzzword, Andrew bought the domain name AlternativeMusic.com and designed a site himself to put on the Internet. From those humble beginnings, AlternativeMusic.com has grown and shifted over the years.

Realizing that he didn't want AlternativeMusic.com to compete against Internet Giants like Amazon and CDNow (or the many companies that would attempt to de-throne them), he decided that Alternativemusic.com would continue to do what it has always done since it was first born on the internet...

It is a place where people can find and buy almost any piece of Alternative Music they want. This niche market has been the core business of AlternativeMusic.com and Lakeshore Record Exchange. Customer service that goes the extra mile and employees that live and love the music are the hallmarks of this business.

While at Lakeshore Record Exchange's store in Rochester, New York, USA, you can not only buy CD's, you can sell them as well. You can listen to almost any item in the store on listening stations located right there in the store. You can buy industry related and alternative culture related magazines, posters, t-shirts, stickers, and more. Lakeshore Record Exchange is a small business that understands its market and who it is serving. It isn't pretentious. It doesn't have high profit margins, or a corporate attitude. It has been and continues to be about alternative music and helping people find that music.

AlternativeMusic.com has a fantastic following on the Internet with alternative music collector's who can't find what they are lookingfor. To us, that speaks volumes. We would like the chance to serve you also.

If you have any suggestions about AlternativeMusic.com, please drop us an email and tell us.

If you are ever in the neighborhood, please drop by. We would love to meet you.
Tags: cd, music, indie, vinyl, recordstore, second handed

Map this on Platial

Rough Trade ( London, UK )

Rough Trade began trading in 1976 at 202 Kensington Park Road, Notting Hill.
Originally specialising in US and Jamaican imports, it soon became one of the leading outlets for the burgeoning punk scene, and subsequently a Mecca for anyone buying or selling new DIY new wave music and fanzines.
In 1978, Rough Trade Records was born. The first release was Paris Marquis by Metal Urbain, soon to be followed with releases by Stiff Little Fingers, Swell Maps, The Raincoats, Cabaret Voltaire...
A mixture of rapid growth and management inexperience caused the shop and label businesses to separate in 1982. As a result, the shop moved round the corner to 130 Talbot Road and the label went on to sign some band called The Smiths.
In 1987, we opened a second store, together with Slam City Skates, at 16 Neal’s Yard, Covent Garden.
International stores (Paris and Tokyo) soon followed but under the weight of global recession, closed for lunch and never re-opened.
The same fate fell upon the label…Rough Trade Records went out of business in the early 90s, but like a phoenix from the ashes, triumphantly returned nine years later with Geoff Travis once again at the helm.
We, Rough Trade shops, celebrated our 25th Anniversary in 2001 with a series of gigs and the release of a commemorative CD compilation. The same year, we also received an award from Music Week in recognition of our unique contribution to the British Music Industry (following the likes of Richard Branson).
Earlier last year, we quietly launched The Album Club – a truly unique and original service that manages to distil all of our heritage, experience and expertise, to provide the finest music delivery service available.
Together with this, our new store website, plus of course our two London stores, we proudly continue to deliver the definitive music shop experience.
Tags: label, cd, london, music, uk, vinyl, recordstore

Stickfigure Distribution

Based in Atlanta, started in Winter of 1992 to cater to the underground scene of independent music. Its roots were in the new sub-culture rising in the 90s. Many of musical genres, such as hardcore, math rock, and emo, were difficult to find in an average record store. It was started by Gavin Frederick who was a radio dj for Georgia Tech. He would play many obscure bands that were not played on popular radio stations.
Tags: cd, music, vinyl, recordstore, album, distribution

Map this on Platial

K-RAA-K

(K-RAA-K)3 is a grass-roots organisation that offers presentation and development possibilities in left field music. It's hard to describe the functioning of (K-RAA-K)3 because the combination of our work strategies differs from most other organisations. We see ourselves as a quality platform, a promotor for young artists who are working within uncommon genres as avant-rock, psych, experimental electronica, free-jazz, new folk, improdrones,... We organise small 'lab-evenings', bigger presentation moments and creation possibilities. With a monthly mini-magazine we also try to support the experimental scene with documentation and promotion. Therefor we could be called a new style music organisation that tries to work within a variety of niches and tries to support those niches and their artists as good as possible. (K-RAA-K)3 and adventure are a synonymic. We want to surprise, present new stuff, or approach music from alternative direction. The most important arguments for our artistic choices are how captivating or innovative the bands are.
Tags: label, cd, music, lp, vinyl, recordstore, album

Map this on Platial
Wisdom Records -- THE source for reggae, dub, and dancehall. That's all they do. And they do it well. Run by rastas, with a single listening station, way the f* out on Mission Street, almost to Daly City... well, actually, not quite that far out, which always throws me as I overshoot it when I'm trying to find it. Look hard. It's upstairs, you have to ring the buzzer to get buzzed in, and the sign is SMALL. Lots of 7" as well as 12".
Tags: vinyl, reggae, dub, dancehall

Map this on Platial

Vinylla (Gent, BE )

Tags: dj, music, house, vinyl, techno, recordstore, vinyl store

Map this on Platial
Orange County's hippest store for punk vinyls, CDs, and tickets. It's a real find for "alternative" music lovers. Customers typically pay between $1.99 to $14.99 for rock and new wave albums. The cheapest records by the door cost just 9 cents, while collectibles like singles from the Beatles go for $125 to $200.
Tags: punk, music, indie, record store, noise, cds, vinyl, alternative, hole in the wall, vinyl store, tickets, vinyls

Map this on Platial

Vinyl Solution (Huntington Beach, USA)

Vinyl Solution is arguably the best venue in the county for punk vinyl. The biggest treasures are the 7-inch vinyl collectible singles displayed on the walls. Southern California bands like X, the Misfits, the Cramps and the Stitches (guitarist Johnny Witmer works at the store) are heavily represented here. On a recent visit, items in the 99-cent row included Simple Minds and Peter Murphy, while the most expensive item was a $100 Ritchie Valens greatest hits album. Owner Darren O'Conner opened the store in 1989.
Tags: collectibles, music store, punk, music, indie, records, vinyl, alternative, recordstore, vinyl solution

Map this on Platial

Rotate This! (Toronto, CA)

        Rotate This
620 Queen St. W.
Toronto, ON, Canada
M6J 1E4

Music makes us happy. And we still like to have fun.

We're one of Toronto's leading and best known independent record stores. We stock new releases from independent bands and artists from Canada, the U.S., England, and around the world. We're committed (actually, obsessed would be more accurate) with stocking as much of this on vinyl as is possible.

Genre-wise, we're down with almost everything: the hip, the hop, the punk, the jazz, the hardcore, the reggae, the electronic, the indie, the un-indie. No classical or nu-country, however.

Rotate This is an equal-genre retailer. We do not exclude titles from stock based on race, creed, culture, religious affiliation or sexual orientation. We might not, however, stock a title we feel is not appropriate for our store, for any number of reasons. You want Brittany? Wicked, so do we. But we don't sell her records. (Well, ok, maybe the UK 12"ers but please don't tell anyone).

We stock used vinyl as well, although the turnover is extremely high, and we find it difficult to keep much stock. If you're looking to rid yourself of your dusty old record collection in exchange for some $$s, we'd be more than happy to take a look. We are rather picky though, so please don't bring in your Poco lps.

We're also an official ticket outlet for most of the major concert promoters in town.

Next time you're out music shopping, and you're looking for stuff that you just can't find at the mall, definitely stop by. We swear that we won't judge your purchases. Honest! (Kidding!) (No, really!)

Rare Records ( Eindhoven, NL )

        Bergstraat 36B
Eindhoven

Rare Records was officially founded in June 1994 as a record finding service. Although some of the founders already were busy doing all kind of things in the music business, the first initiative using the name Rare Records was the start of a mail-order service. With customers from Australia to the US, from Russia to South America, Rare Records grew out to be one of the most important record suppliers of many dj's and record collectors.

After this initial success, Rare Records The All Style Dance Store was started in July 1995. Up till today this is still one of the most important specialized Dance stores in this area, with daily customers from the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France and even the UK.

Rare Records can be found at two locations. The first is our store in Eindhoven. The second location is our warehouse in Budel. This is the place where your products are ordered, stored and shipped. At our offices in Budel we work very hard to purchase the best releases and make sure they are delivered to you as soon as possible.

To serve our customers even better, Rare Records the website was launched. Although not the first record store on the net, Rare Records will sure try to be one of the best. We have tried to create an online store for people who truly love music, but also appreciate good service and fast delivery.

When we were developing Rare Web we started thinking what we could do for our customers besides our store. We started discussing a dj community for all dj's and artists around the world and slowly but certain Rare DJ was born.

At this time we are still improving and developing all our activities to make sure that the future of Rare Records is even better than our history!
Tags: eindhoven, cd, rare, music, records, vinyl, second hand, netherlands

Map this on Platial
Verkopen voornamelijk indiezaken.
