This is a really nice playground which features a little cafe area where parents can sit and sip coffee. Every playground should have a shaded coffee-drinking area. J'aime beaucoup ce parc. Il y a un petit café juste-là où on peut s'assoir boire un petit café tout en gardant un oeil sur les gamins.

Golden Gate Park

Golden Gate Park is enormous with everything from botanical gardens, playground, paddle boats (Stow Lake) polo grounds, lawn bowling, croquet, windmills, buffalo, fly fishing practice areas, exotic flower conservatory, tennis, model boat clubs (including submarines and speedboats that go 50mph!), Japanese tea garden, golf, outdoor theatre, concerts, and walking distance to the 9th & Irving, Cole Valley and Haight neighborhoods where you can grab a coffee, burrito, or sit down to eat. I generally recommend people to start their tour of Golden Gate Park in the Botanical Gardens. It's a good reference point to begin your exploration. Several main roads in the park are closed on Sundays -- which is great for walkers, bikers, bladers, strollers, etc to have more room -- so parking may be more difficult.

This is the best public park I've ever been to, period. It's small enough to let kids run wild without worrying about whether they'll ever return, but peaceful enough to feel instant relaxation. There's a wide path for bikes, scooters, etc. that surrounds a hugh manicured field. It's like having a Huntington Gardens you can play in! There's also a nice playground, tennis courts, and a small rose garden. Great place for a picnic, and in the summer there's a concert series. Warning: there's a fee for non-residents on the weekend. Also, parking can be a little tough, but it's worth it! Perfect for all ages.

The Head Start Family Resource Center in Hastings, Nebraska is in a renovated K-Mart. The building houses 13 classrooms, as well as 4 larger rooms for infants and toddlers, a parent room, a resource center for people who have recently immigrated to the US, computer labs, cafeterias, conference rooms and offices. The building has large outdoor playgrounds, opening up to the cornfields of Nebraska. (click url for more info)

There is something weird about the way city planners put little kids' playgrounds right next to highways in cities. I yell at my kid enough under normal circumstances, without having to do it just to be heard over the drone of traffic. This park does have a waterplay toy which sprays water down on you like a shower.

Daycare Park

Three different daycares congregate here every single weekday morning. It's a great place to hang out with your kid. Local people bring their old toys here and drop them off, so it is full of old plastic wagons, scooters, toy gas pumps, playhouses, annd one very large sdandbox tugboat. The park was also renovated this year. One of the coolest things about this park is that the flowering trees attract honey bees from a local hive. They're gentle honey bees. I've never seen a kid gett stung, thought they run through the water puddle where the bees congregate to drink. Excellent climbing trees!

This is a really great park, It's big, with a playground and hills and a field. There's even a sprinkler. Every summer they have a free festival with free kiddie carnival rides and free hot dogs. There's a little marsh, reminding us that Cambridge is really just a big filled-in swamp, underneath the swank. There's a wifi connection near the playground equipment, where there are also picnic tables. There's spotty wifi up in the field area. It's just someone's liksys, so it might not be on all the time. There's a tiny parking lot. Great place for a birthday party.

Crummy Traffic Noise Playground

This is a crummy park, not because of the equipment, which is in good shape and quite nice, but mainly because of the location. The noise of traffic is just loud enough to be annoying and relentless. There's usually a drunk person or two hanging out next to the disintegrating non-funtioning water fountain. It's more a place for teenagers to hang out and clandestinely smoke cigarettes and write cuss words on the swings than a place to hang out with your kids. Very spotty wifi.

Very cool inner city zoo. Pelican's and flamingos wandering the paths, giant tortoise, a small aquarium, tons of monkeys and several straight up playgrounds. One playground has a 40 ft high tube slide that the kids have to scramble up stories of rope ladders to line up for.

Normandy Park Playground

Location: 2484 East County Road F White Bear Lake, MN 55110 A beautiful little park in White Bear Lake designed specifically for kids 1-5 years of age. Affiliated with Normandy Park Education Center so during school hours accessibility is hit or miss, but it is a perfect place for fun on evenings and weekends as well as non-school days. It is fenced in and has a well-padded play surface with lots of climbing equipment. It is located on the corner of Bellaire Avenue and County Rd F on the East side of White Bear Lake. The only negatives here are that the trees are new, and there is very little shade, but that's not unusual. There are some picnic tables by the school, so picnics are possible, but they are outside the gated park.

After several weeks of business travel, rushed holiday preparations and an abundance of other obligations keeping us from any real quality family time, we took a spontaneous trip to Skamania Lodge. +Outdoor rock jacuzzi amidst fresh fallen snow +Pool, sauna, hot tubs and new age meditative music +Free 24 hour Starbucks station which includes Apple Cider, Hot Chocolate, Tea and Coffee (No Green Tea). +Fantastic local wine selection at the restaurant (Prime Rib++) +Library stocked with board games and books for all ages. +Stocked honor basket which came in very handy at 4am when we had to bribe Tabor to take his asthma medicine with eating M&Ms. Emiko asked me to read to her from The World Is Flat which I have already read but was excited to see again. She asked questions about the environment and asked me to keep reading for 30 minutes while she drew. It was the part about compassionate flatists and for a five year old and she completely got it. The vague theories of "wasting" made sense in this bigger context, hearing something positive about McDonalds (supply chain standards) made her happy ;-). Sure there was some whining and some sibling fights but otherwise, utter familial bliss with marshmallows on top.

There are lots of networks to choose from, but no picnic tables or tables of any kind, so the word laptop has to be taken literally. There's a nice play structure, a baseball field, plenty of shade, and a little kids' area. Also, sand! It's dog-friendly and there's room for flying kites and playing frisbee.

The old abandoned playground at Juarez park

just behind the new fancy wonderful playground is a rusting graveyard of forgotten half mutilated equipment. A sharp rusty slide propped up on 3 stump steps, a rotating globe shaped tea cup thing that only spins half way around, and a series of teeter totters that are broken in half.
