We made it out in the pouring rain on the last ferry and stayed all weekend. The island used to be a rabbit run and the giant bunny anscestors are teeming here. Explore all of the military ruins, admire the roundhouse of the young park rangers. Campfire with a view of the city. No fresh water on the island, so the hardest part is hauling it in.

I've been friends with him sense day one, I can't remember a time when he wasn't in my life. When we were little it was the stupid things that kept us from just moving on to different friends as we grew up and changed. Things like how we had the same first name, our dads worked in the same place, our cats had the same name, we had the same birthday. 10 years later our cats have both died, our dads no longer work there and we relize that the same birhtday is 4 years apart, yet we are still friends. Now our relationship is based on how we have a lot of the same memories, we have a lot of the same friends, he lives next door to my best friend, and the fact that we have been friends for so long that I don't think either one of us would know what to do is we weren't. As he gets older I see more and more of his dad in him, especially in his sense of humor. He's a awesome guy and somebody that you only run across once in your life so you better sieze the moment.

Vacation! This was a wonderful vacation. I drew every day. I went to the beach. I spent a night in la Paz. I got to hang out with good friends. Highlights of the trip include Serena bringing her lettuce sprouts with us to La Paz to keep them watered and happy, having the hotel rooftop bar all to ourselves in La Paz, Brent's cooking, the rocky beach, making up stories about the ruins of the old cannery, and all of the hanging out. Weekend Canoe Trip - South Fork of the Shenandoah

Woodduck did a number of weekend canoe trips with the college age members of his church. Mr. Bill would usually join late Friday evening or early Saturday morning after making the drive from DC where he worked. This is a public boat ramp where the group would put in. It is a great staging area because of the large parking lot and the width of the river at that point. And the river being gentle. Set up the shuttle while people load the canoes and get in the water, and in 45 minutes the floatilla is off!

My Other Home Town

Paris is the place where I really grew up. Where I learned how to be happy and generous. Paris is my other home town, the one that I chose for myself. It was difficult for me to place this on a map called "Leap of Faith," because I don't think of it like that. In some ways you can look at my entire adult life as a series of leaps of faith, but when they are strung so close together like that, it's difficult to isolate one from another. It's not like leaping so much as letting myself be carried. People often ask me why I went to France when I was 20 and I have no true answer. I used to always say that I was trying to get as far away from Iowa as possible and that when I got to Paris it suddenly dawned on me that the world is round and if I don't stop somewhere I'm going to end up back where I came from.

update: Tali and Kyle gave a couple of lectures at Mass Art this week and on Tuesday night, the students set up a little event for them. The students all built little structures in the Student Life Gallery Space. They made vegan cookies shaped like video feedback from stencils Tali made. The kids especially had a great time.
