April 2006 37 pigs were pulled from atrocious conditions in a pet store after numerous complaints by consumers. After pregnancies, the total ended up being 54 guinea pigs. The pigs were not in good shape. This case is pending litigation, and the owner may be able to get some of these animals back, sadly. Rescues Involved: Ohio Cavies

On October 29 The Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York (A.R.T./New York)presents The Sixth Annual Raising Kids and Curtains Halloween Show, a musical storytelling performance of "How the Turtle Got Its Shell" by Shadow Box Theatre. Audience participation is encouraged as the little turtle outsmarts a fierce leopard. Adapted from an African folktale by Sandra Robbins and is performed by Leena Conquest and Ayanda Clarke. Costume parade of audience and performers directly follow the show. Goodie bags will be given out while supplies last. Costumes are encouraged. Doors open at 2:30pm for a 3pm performance. Admission is free and no reservations are required, however space is limited.

Here it is ... Finals footage from this year's Tampa Pro Contest at the Skatepark Of Tampa. The park is amazing and seeing these guys ripping all day is a damn treat. Everyone was pulling crazy tricks, so I don't know how the judges decided the top five. In the end, Lutzka came out on top with a prize of $10k, followed by Jereme Rogers ($7,500) and Kyle Berard ($5,000). Sheckler would probably have been in the top three, but he took a nasty slam to the head trying to kickflip back-lip the big rail. He still came back, however, and landed the trick in the final run. If you've never been down to Tampa, you should try to make it down next year. It's a damn good time. Thanks to Ryan Clements for the media passes. Carr Properties plans to spend $400 million this year, focusing on building, managing and investing in properties in the District. The company is a combination of the former Columbia Equity Trust, a publicly traded company founded by Oliver Carr, and CarrAmerica Urban Development, which Bob Carr runs. J.P. Morgan Chase is the main backer of the new, privately held Carr Properties. "It's a collective enterprise both to serve the market and to blend income for our investors," said Bob Carr. Carr Properties will venture into suburban, mixed-use and residential development. But it will not abandon the script that the Carrs have followed over the decades, which is the development of office space in the District. The company's first project is the construction of a 250,000-square-foot office building behind Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church at 901 K St. NW. Earlier this month, Thomas A. Carr, brother of Bob and Oliver, joined Federal Capital Partners, a regional real estate investment and development company headquartered in the District. Federal Capital said last week it had purchased the 447-unit Park Place Towers in Bladensburg for $24.4 million. The seller was Shaool Construction.
