Every time I go to a new city, I try to visit the local zoo. 'Cause I'm cool like that. And by cool, I mean nerdy. Anyway, this was a nice small zoo. Nothing spectacular, but it had a cool wolf exhibit. And it was easy to get to (Portland has a kick butt mass transit system).

Map this on Platial

A local favorite. Can be a bit loud when it gets packed, but at least there is plenty of room for everyone.
Pros: Lots of room; covered, so sheltered from freak storms; bring your doggies if you got 'em.
Cons: the beer isn't that great; covered patio means no sun; one recent companion compared it to a third-world prison. It aint pretty but it's reliable!

Map this on Platial

The New Old Lompoc

One of the best patios in town. A covered section, and an open-to-the-world, catch-a-tan-or-a-drunken-sunburn section. Adult beverages also served, for those in your party that don't want beer. But, like the Lucky Lab, you're stuck with brewery beers that aren't that great. Not bad at all, though.

Map this on Platial

Cannon Beach, Oregon

In 2002, Garrett and I got married and took our honeymoon in Oregon. We stayed for several days in Cannon Beach. We lodged at the 'Sea Sprite Guest Lodgings'. A great place to eat in the area is Camp 18 Restaurant outside of Seaside. Its essentially a logging museaum where the food is as huge as the logs holding the place up! While in the area we also hiked Ecola State Park, which I highly reccomend. Beautiful ocean cliffs.

Map this on Platial

night swimming.

at the pcc cascade campus, there is a swimming pool that is very easy to break into- just a quick climb over a very tall fence, but very doable. after a night of criss-crossing all over the city (secret house show, deserted warehouse party with free high life, tamales at javier's on lombard), we ended with some good old fashioned trespassing. i climbed the gate in high heels and swam in my underwear. we had been in the water for about ten minutes when the police rolled up. luckily, in north portland, the police have other things to worry about. however, slightly tipsy, we were convinced we had to run, and i fell about ten feet onto the street in the process. my leg was twitching for days afterwards.

Map this on Platial

bike adventure and bonfire

the threatening clouds dissipated into a dramatic sunset which set the scene for a very relaxing time at the beach. fire roasted corn, lamb sausage, watermelon, beer and home made thai food were on hand.

Highlight, the fire got so hot it melted the cooking rack.

Somewhat old stone house ruins. It is unclear exactly what it had been, but rumors of rituals have always surrounded this magnificently mossy specimen.

Map this on Platial
