When Craig and I went to Monteray Bay, it was the only day of the year that the scenic 17-mile drive was closed to tourists. When we came back, we didn't have time to bike it, so drove it and we're very happy about it. We were pretty dirty then Craig's Debit card didn't work in the Pebble Beach gift shop and I almost backed into an SUV when we were leaving.
Tags: californina, wreck, biking, craig

Map this on Platial
Salt Creek Park Provides South County residents access to 18 acres of public beaches. The park consists of landscaped parking facility, sandy beaches, rocky promontories, and sheer cliffs. The original ravine canyon locally known as Salt Creek, makes the northerly boundary of the beach. Grading and landscaping have been completed in such a manner as to blend with the natural features, leaving the beach and cliff area basically undisturbed.
Tags: salt creek beach, parks, beaches, cliffs, canyon

Map this on Platial

Newport Harbor

Newport Harbor has been acclaimed as one of the finest small boat harbors in the world. In addition, Newport Harbor and its surrounding shoreline is a place of beauty and scenic wonder... wind blown bluffs, sandy beaches, rocky coves and numerous islands from the harbor outline. Two jetties stand as sentries against the encroaching sea. Two main channels join and converge towards the harbor mouth. Over 9,000 boats are berthed in this well protected harbor. Quiet bay beaches line the length of the inside channel while endless surf pounds the oceanfront.

Newport Harbor is as functional as it is beautiful. Boat slips line much of the shoreline and midchannel anchorage is also available. All size recreational and commercial boats can be accommodated, from the smallest of rowboats to large luxury yachts. Private homes, from beach houses to estates, follow the harbor's contour. Spreading fan-like out from the harbor's edge is the City of Newport Beach.
Tags: newport harbor, newport beach, boats, scenic, beaches, coves, yachts

Map this on Platial

Stinson Beach!

Rockin' beach to take the dog off leash. Follow the signs off Highway 1. From the parking lot, go to the northern most beach access and head north on the beach (south of this entrance is all state park land: no dogs allowed).
From here, let the mutt off leash to romp and roll in the dead seal carcasses - this being great white territory, there are some - all the way up to the ... inlet? Is that what those are called? Basically, at the end of the beach you can see Bolinas, one of the most guarded or secretive towns on the coast. Beware of strong outgoing tides, and rip currents: low tide is a great time to go, high tide can be dangerous for water dogs. Stinsonites are very friendly, as are their dogs. I've found the best time of day is very early morning right before you head up or down the coast for one of the most beautiful scenic drives around.
Tags: beach, dog, surf, sand, fun, shark, seal

Map this on Platial
