From Hell's Kitchen we took a cab to West Chelsea and walked to the Meat Packing District where we shopped at Jeffrey's and Stella McCarthney. Shopping can make you very thirsty and off we walked to Hoggs and Heffer's for an afternoon dance on the bar, game of pool, and song.

Map this on Platial

Fix Las Vegas

Food was beautifully presented. The winner of the evening was the Yellowtail Sashimi Jalapeño, Ponzu topped with thinly sliced jalapeño and one leaf of cilontro, splashed with citrus juice. Pumpkin filled ravioli in a sage butter sauce was very tasty. Scallops "Benedict", wrapped in Apple Wood Bacon, Crab Hollandaise was enjoyed. As was the very beautiful Shrimp "Louis" & Coctail Sauce. The only complaint from our party of 8 was the pork chop was under cooked.

Map this on Platial

Dining at El Charro, the oldest restaurant in the US was a delicious treat and the margaritas were excellent. The conversation over burritos was enlightening. The interior of El Charro was delightful warm and inviting. I only wish we arrived at El Charro earlier in the evening. It would seem everything in Tucson closes around 9 pm this New Yorker is just not use to the streets rolling up so early.

Map this on Platial
I spent the evening with Bill Firing, Joseph Cole and Terence Bogan at Taste. I had the orange ginger shrimp, rice stick noodles, asparagus, red pepper, cilantro, oranges, scallions, and citrus ginger sauce, which was outstanding.

Taste is a casual place great for hanging out with friends and enjoy delicious food. As always it was great to see Bill, Joseph and Terence. Of course Terence filled us in on the up and coming spring fashions! Short, short skirts not for me.

Tom met me later in the afternoon at Hal’s. Tom told me the Pineapple-Carrot Cake with fresh pineapple, and coconut sorbet was very unusual with its chunks of carrot and pineapple.

Map this on Platial
If you’re looking for a yummy treat smack dab in the middle of no where, don’t look any further. Grasslands is a food paradise located in Sonoita where route 83 goes from south to east. Stop the car, or whatever you’re driving get out and have lunch! Dine like a New Yorker. Order the split pea soup! Then have the Southwest Quiche which is “a flavor blend from mild chilies, black olives, chives, cilantro, cumin and organic cheddar.”(Grasslands) Wash it down with prickly pear lemonade. Or enjoy a warm broccoli croissant. Don’t forget to order the double layer chocolate cake all baked fresh at the Grasslands.

Map this on Platial

Daily Eats Interview: Chef Helen Anaya - Canela Culinary Services

Chef Helen Anaya tells Daily Eats all about Mexican Gourmet cooking. Cooking is Helen Anaya’s passion. She describes how to prepare napal (catus), her signature Latino Spinach Salad, and Sofrito. Helen prepared these delicious dishes for us to try today.

She made a special dessert in honor my love of chocolate: Abuelita Chocolate – lovely spicy chocolate pudding which sits inside a small pie shell.

Chef Anaya's Canela Culinary Services located in Gilbert, AZ.
