Jonell's Cocktail Lounge

Love this quote from Mike W "I'd be hard pressed to find a worse place for a bar.
The two blocks of Jones street on either side of Jonell's is possibly the worst stretch of sidewalk in the Tenderloin, boasting the highest density of panhandlers, junkies, and semiconscious derelicts per-block of any other stretch in the city. Think you're edgy cause you slum 16th and Mission on the weekends? Punk, you ain't shit till you've partied at Jones & Ellis..."
When I went there the bartender pulled out a bat and ran after the loitering masses in front of the bar.
Al Green is on the jukebox though.

Map this on Platial
One of my favorite dive bars in the city. Nothing trendy, very loud, good jukebox. An eclectic mix of people from locals to concert go-ers [it's across the street from the warfield]. Usually crowded but always fun. Somehow, and god love him, Frank always recognizes me and Josh and pours up a shot of Jager for free. Amazing.

Map this on Platial
The filthiest bar around. The crowning jewel on any dive bar aficionado's list. All my beautiful memories of this place are in black and white....as they should be. The horn rimmed dirt coated glasses of the visually impaired bartender, the 1979 earthquake inspired can of creamed corn, the flea infested dogs, and the American Flag hanging in the doorway. It was the Carnie Casablanca. Unfortunately, I heard that it has closed.

Map this on Platial
Pretty much sums it up.

Map this on Platial

The End Up

This isn't a dive bar, persay. It's more of a skanky dance club, but it needs to be on my list since I've spent so much time there. The End Up is a hit-or-miss party. I've had fun on Fag Friday [and i'm a straight girl] and it has sucked on big-name DJ nights. You just have to be patient.

Map this on Platial
While most "American" style bars overseas are pretty overdone, this is a good one. So whenever there's an US navy boat in, best avoided. Otherwise, a good place for a drink.

Map this on Platial

Fireside Motel Bar

Hardcore drinking bar located at the intersection of Shoreline and the several on/off ramps at Manzanita in Mill Valley, CA. It's been closed for several years now. There was a room with a huge bar....nothing else. They are about to knock it down so I thought I'd get a picture and write a blurb before it's gone.

Map this on Platial
