Overtoom 301 Squat

In the hull of an old film school, this gov't sanctioned community squat hosts various noise events, but my favorite is the nearly regular (monday nights) Kraakgeluiden, where various "musicians" are matched up and given a week to practice. The place is very professional, has seen tons of structural and code imporvements and isn't intimidating as some squat scenese can be. Think of it as a sorta of really fringe jazz scene, in fact this is how people treat the shows, very reverently. If you come late, come in quietly.

Map this on Platial

The Smell

The Smell is an all ages music venue happening in Downtown Los Angeles, California. It is a volunteer-run space with no employees or profit of any kind. On almost any night of the week one can come to The Smell and be part of an intimate performance by local and touring musicians. Most shows cost five dollars. Although there is a proper stage with adequate sound system and lighting, bands choose to play all over the club - from behind the stage to the front desk, from the bathroom to the parking lot. Aside it's primary function as a live music and performance art space. Enter through the alley.

Map this on Platial
