Bit Torrent, Bring Us Together :: 9/28 event

        Bit Torrent, Bring Us Together!
@ Travelers and Record Sound System (403 SW 10th Ave @ Stark St.)
Thursday, Sep. 28th 2006 - 5pm
Portland, Or.

Bit Torrent, created by Bram Cohen, and released to the public in 2002, enables multiple persons to share information with one another "directly", and simultaneously. The directness of the sharing of this information is nearly invisible. With peer to peer file sharing one may never know who they received the information they were seeking from, all they know is that there are like minds out in the world, and they are gathering together towards a cumulative knowledge base. The similarities present between Bit Torrent file sharing and the democratic voice are overtly apparent - like minds are available, they are talking. It is up to the individual to harness the power of those like minds and accentuate those voices in unison for the strength of the community as a whole.

For Bit Torrent, Bring Us Together! Colin Beattie and Sam Gould have create a process oriented dance piece that requires the publics active involvement to play itself out to conclusion - to positive, or negative, results depending on that very involvement. Bit Torrent plays out with individuals serving the roles of Peers, Files, and Trackers, illustrating in real time the correlation between the framework of democratic voice/action, and the Bit Torrent process.

Join us, take part in the role you were born to play!

Map this on Platial

An interactive installation for people and waterfowl. On the waterfront, where a variety of migrating waterfowl pass through Peekskill every Fall, is a tree stump where visitors can activate bird whistles that call out to ducks and geese. Located close by is a small fountain providing fresh water for the migrating birds. The Installation allows a rare opportunity for people to communicate with the birds while highlighting the urban park's controlled natural environment.

On view during the Peekskill Project September 16 to October 8

Map this on Platial

Walking/Listening/Recording (sound installation)

Walking/Listening/Recording: Tryon Creek (2006) is a 10-channel sound installation set along the Trillium Trail in Tryon Creek State Park, Portland, Oregon. Along the initial 250ft passage of the Trillium Trail, speakers from hidden locations cast layers of found sounds interwoven with poetic murmurs and field recordings from around the Red Fox Bridge area in the park. William Stafford's poem "Walking with Your Eyes Shut" inspired the use of poetry in the piece - to form a dialogue between the visual and audible experience. These layers of sound are intended to engage visitors in a sonic narrative along the trail.

HABERMAN ART - Saturday, October 14, 5 – 9 pm

Just an innocent art show reminder. If you happen to be around SE Portland this Saturday evening, stop by and say hello. I have a buncha new work and I really like the walls of this joint (multi color…oohh la la).

Invite attached. Info also below with commentary.

Saturday, October 14, 5 – 9 pm (Roots Brewery, (1520 SE Seventh Ave Portland, off Hawthorne). Showing (30) paintings for this Autumn opening show, entitled “Young Man Like You, Drunk By Noon” – newly selected works of Chris Haberman. Show runs from Oct. 14 – Nov. 14. Come by and have an “organic” pint from this totally colorful (and independent) local organic brewery. They also feature a Jalapeno beer and the taps are made from Dragonboat paddles. It’s also non-smoking for anyone that happens to be kinda healthy (except for beer drinking of course).

Map this on Platial

Foghat Ranchero gets a Champagne Shower + brunch

Nat and Scott have been doing this Tailgating project for a while now, where they park their ranchero outside of art events and shindigs and just random places, and give away free beer and hotdogs, grilling off the tailgate. They provide a few chairs and literally call out to passersby, inviting them to join in the party.

Now they have an officially sanctioned art event of their own, in association with PICA, they threw a celebratory brunch and champagne shower for their car, sporting the new vanity plates "FOGHAT"

Artistic Actions in the Interconnected Urban Territory

The representation of the territory holds a historical role in the privileges of power. The geographical data has always been in its hands. The regaining of this representation goes through the description and sharing (often in personal perspectives too). This is made possible thanks to the collaborative tools and consequent changing of the value of the maps. These maps are not granted anymore by structures of power, but built by individuals who, drawing on the ideas of the psychogeographical movements, repaint the urban space according to fresh new coordinates.

Jon Humphries Photo Show @ Cal's Pharmacy Dec. 30th!!!

        Hey Everyone!

Saturday, December 30th, Cal's Pharmacy is proud to host a photography show by our very own Portland local gone big time: Jon Humphries.

If you don't know who Humphries is, let me fill you in: he's the ripping-ist
skateboard photographer ever. (my humble opinion).

He has shot with everyone and for everyone: Transworld, The Skateboard Mag,
Danny Way, Arto, P-Rod, T-Hawk, etc.
The guy is top notch.

Don't miss your chance to say what's up to Jon and see a new collection of never seen before prints, polaroids and other photographic works of wizardry that he has put together for his custom installation here at Cals Pharmacy.

Opening reception:

Saturday Dec. 30th
7pm-10pm

Cals Pharmacy
11 NE Hancock St.
Portland, OR
97217

503-233-1237

Thanks, peace, and Merry Christmas to all...
