        Ghouls & Gourds
Sunday, October 29, Noon–4:30 p.m.

Let the "wild rumpus" start! Bring your costumes, instruments, and silly attitudes and prepare to be charmed by one of New York City's wackiest Halloween extravaganzas. Hot Peas 'N Butter—who stunned audiences from Symphony Space to the Tribeca Film Festival with their upbeat blend of Puerto Rican bomba plena, American folk, and groovy R&B—will have audiences of all ages dancing in the grass. The group will be joined by nine-year-old Puerto Rican dance prodigy Alize Roid. Rebecca Frezza and her Big Truck Band became an instant smash hit on Nickelodeon cable television with her song about gardening entitled H²O + O² + Sun. She promises to bring that song and more of her award-winning high octane rock 'n' roll sounds to BBG audiences on the Cherry Esplanade. Parent's Choice Gold Award–winner Billy Jonas returns from Asheville, North Carolina, to sing about recycling, watermelon seeds, and Mount St. Helen with his one-man "industrial re-percussion" band. Plus use Sassafras-leaf rubbings to make a "ghost portrait," check out displays of "shrunken apple heads" and Thai pumpkin carving, or make your own recycled instrument to take home. The afternoon culminates with a Halloween costume parade led by drummers from the Brazilian percussion corps, Maracatu NY. Visiting ghouls and goblins can march to the beat of hundreds of zany percussion instruments, carry an assortment of larger-than-life puppets, or just show off their own costumes for all to see!

Drama of Works presents:

Sleepy Hollow

Drama of Works premieres their newest full-length work just in time for Halloween. Based on the classic tale by Washington Irving, Sleepy Hollow is a beautifully mounted, large-scale shadow puppet re-telling of the legend. The production features an original score by Vivian Fung, performed live by a chamber ensemble. Directed by Gretchen Van Lente. Puppets designed by James Walton.

Tonight: Venture through our own jack-o-lantern filled haunted forest before Drama of Works presents their new hour-long production.

        Theater for the New City
155 First Avenue, at the corner of East 10th Street, Manhattan
4p outdoors, 8p indoors; $free outside, $20 inside, costume or formal wear required

Village Halloween Costume Ball

Theater for the New City's two-story, 30,000 square foot space
transformed into a series of Halloween environments by painters and scenic designers. Tap dancers, belly dancers, lounge acts, musicians, and comedy teams will perform throughout the night in two cabarets.

The one-night fiesta takes over all four of the theater spaces, plus the lobby and the block of East Tenth Street between First and Second avenues. Customarily over 1,400 wildly-clad celebrants gather for dancing, dining, showing off costumes and viewing acts from the cutting-edge of cabaret and theater. Outside, there are bluegrass and jazz bands, fire-eaters, jugglers, storyweavers, and stilt dancers. Inside, there is theater all evening.

Swalloweenie

A reminder about Stain's big annual event, the holiday we practice all year long: bobbing for hotdogs! But that's optional. The garden gets turned into a graveyard of the year's newly deceased, the drinks are all dark and red, the costumes should be ugly, offensive, or dead and prizes will be doled out accordingly. And, best yet, you get to meet the new house cat, black, and apropos to the time, named Poe. As in Edgar Allan.

Lost Film Fest

If you like pranks on corporations and you really hate George W Bush, you'll love the Lost Film Fest. The program is hosted by Scott Beibin and travels the planet year round doing over 200 shows in all kinds of settings. It's an interactive performance that incorporates politically charged and humorous short films by folks like the Yes Men, Guerrilla News Network, and news that mysteriously doesn't make the news (riot porn!). The program changes all the time with new stuff added to the mix. You might even get to see the fabled episode of Jerry Springer with the Locust and Beibin. Don't miss your opportunity to catch it when it's in town.

Tonight's show is preceded by a 1920 Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, with a live score by the Devil Music Ensemble.
